Music is a photograph.

Music is meant to evoke emotion in a person. Photography is meant to evoke emotion in a person. Any kind of art is supposed to have this effect. So, in theory, you could represent one art form through another. I am going to attempt to do this with this project the I'm starting. The idea is to take a musical album, and turn it into a series of photographs. You can do this through looking at the song titles, reading the lyrics, listening to the music. Just whatever the music makes you feel, then using these things you've observed to create a photograph. I've been thinking about this project for a while, so I've got some good ideas already. The album that I'm going to photograph is Circa Survive's "Blue Sky Noise". I'm going to use the lyrics of the songs, along with the feeling of the songs, to create my photographs. When I finish the project I'll put the photographs up with the songs that inspired them.

Upcoming projects.

So, currently, I'm working on my 40 and 1/3 landscape project. It's hard to find quality time to spend taking photos with my busy schedule. But anyways, here are some projects I want want to do next.

Shape and Line (a texture study):
I want to do a project where I go around and photograph different textures. The photo will contain  only texture, not really any subject matter. This is so in the future I will have textures to combine with other photographs. It is also to study shapes and lines. This is the only time I'm going to dedicate a whole project to textures, and it should be a fairly quick project. (24 or more photos)

Throughout other projects when I see textures I will photograph them even if they don't relate to the project.

Upon reflection (self portraits):
So for this project the idea is to go around and find any object the reflects. I'll be taking a picture of myself in the reflection. This could be anything from a mirror, to glass, to a teapot. Anything I can find a reflection in I will take a picture of. (24 or more photos)

40 and 1/3 (a landscape study)

The idea of this project is to use a 40 mm lens and take photos that are 1/3 land, 2/3 sky. Landscapes, cityscapes, etc. I got this idea from a photographer's work I really like, named Cole Rise. Here are his photos from this project (his is 50 mm and 2/3):   fifty & two thirds: no.1 (waves before a storm)

fifty & two thirds: no.2

fifty & two thirds: no.3

His flickr:

His website:

So a full roll of film (digital) = 36 images at least. Due by Thursday, October 20th.

Project one: Review

This project is a review of everything I have learned from my photo 1 and photo 2 classes. The project is a compilation of every photo project thus far. The goal is to take 3-6 pictures using the themes of previous projects. So at the end of the project I will have reviewed all of the things I have learned so far.
Projects (in order):
- One thing
- Portraits
- Types of light
- Rule of thirds/symetry/leading lines
- Self portraits
- Multiple exposures
- Blur
- Architecture
- "It's not too late to..."
- Landscapes
- Still life
- Identity (self portraits)
So that's 36-72 photos total for all of the projects. Due date: Friday, the 30th.

Photo project ideas

I've never done a straight up text post on this blog before, so this should be interesting! So as the title states, I'm going to post some photo project ideas I've thought of or have seen elsewhere. I want to have a good amount of different projects listed in this post and future posts, because I'll (hopefully) be taking photo 3 and 4 next year, which are independent study. So I get to choose whatever project I do! Also, if I want to take pictures during the summer I can use these projects! So here are a few ideas, with more to come, and a little description of each:

Self portrait (Part 2!):
So I've already done a self portrait project (in photo 1) and I really liked it. I really don't care for taking pictures of people unless, that person is me. That sounds bad, like I'm really full of myself, but it's just so much easier and more fun to take pictures of yourself rather than other people. You don't have to ask your subject to do all these ridiculous and silly things, you can just do them yourself! Anyways, I think self portraits are always good.

Photo collage:
So I've seen some photo collages in other photo 2 classes from past years, and I was sort of disappointed I didn't get to do my own photo collage in photo 2. So that's why this is on my list. Basically, a photo collage (the ones I've seen, at least) are where you take a bunch of smaller pictures of an object or subject, and then print out all of those smaller pictures and put them together in a larger picture. I just think it's a really cool effect and awesome project.

"The unknown figure":
So this is the project that I'm most excited that I thought of. Basically, the idea is that you have people in your photographs, usually in some sort of nature setting, except they're always turned away from the camera, like they're walking away. I've seen a ton of pictures like this, and I just really love them all for some reason. Something about the anonymity of the people in the photographs just intrigues me. So I think this project would be awesome.

So there's a few photo project ideas, I'll post some more in the future!
